OK so I just came back from seeing the movie Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Alright so I guess I'll tell you how I felt about it.

It starts off with Alex the lion's background, ie. what happened before Madagascar. Then it shows how he ended up in the zoo in the first movie. It's quite absurd but still believable. So then later it shows them in Madagascar and all that getting out. You've all seen the trailers. So you would know that they end up somewhere in Africa. Well so they meet a lot of new animals and all of them get their own set of problems.

Alex cannot fight like the other lions and has the problem of the evil lion Makunga. This lion seriously seems to be like Scar from The Lion King. He is extremely deceptive and tries to get his way and in the end, he is quite like Scar. However, this being a comedy, his "end" is quite comical compared to Scar's getting eaten by hyenas.

Marty the zebra finds out that he is not as unique as he once thought he was and gets really upset about it. The way he resolves this conflict is really quite cliché but its good enough.

Gloria the hippo finds a new love, the hunky hippo, Moto Moto. The problem is that Melman the giraffe is in love with her (love transcends all boundaries I guess). Well you gotta pity Melman in this one.

Oh, and Melman also thinks he's about to die.

King Julian the lemur is similar to Patrick from Spongebob in that Alaskan Bullworm and Mad Snail Disease episodes. He is able to come up with ideas that spur everyone into mass hysteria even though they are just so dumb.

Maurice, King Julian's advisor, is not very important. But he is quite cute.

Mort, the cutie from the first movie, is now deemed as irritating by King Julian (it's the beginning of the movie. it's not that much of a spoiler). Well he ends up making King Julian believe in himself, the means being a giant shark. Unfortunately, well it does not seem that anyone else does.

The old woman from the first movie is turned into one of the main antagonists along with Makunga. She is also one who spurs many on, in contrast to Makunga whom everyone hates. Makes you think of Hitler, being so charismatic yet evil. The Penguins: The comic relief. Well yeah OK just enjoy 'em in the movie. They're fun.

The Monkeys: They help the Penguins get *cough* some opposable thumbs.

OK so I feel that the graphics in this may not be so great. People walk around on their feet and stuff and its not that realistic. But that does not matter. Must a movie always be realistic to be good?

OK it has consistent humour, unlike the first Madagascar which had all the humour in the beginning and end with a lot of sadness in the middle. Even in the emotional parts, this movie delivers some laughs.

The end scene was action-packed and all but quite unsatisfying since there are still so many things to be resolved.
I think that if the movie were to be longer, they would be able to make a more satisfying movie. 1 1/2 hours is way too short.

SPOILERS:

Plotholes:
What on earth happened to Moto Moto in the end?

What about the tribe of New Yorkers?
Where did the old lady and Makunga go?
Why did King Julian not do anything more after causing the mass hysteria and believing it? Probably because of the 1 1/2 hour time limit so it can be shown on Disney Channel and stuff.

Just Spoilers:
In one part, Gloria says, How the -- Hello? Are you going to fix that plane?
