About to Leave

Well I came back from my camp and the Spiritual Meeting. Theolo's about to start so I might as well write about the camp first.

OK so I only read the proposal for the camp the day before it. Big deal. OK fine it was one. I was completely unprepared for it. I was written in as the "welfare" IC. In case you do not know, that means I was the guy in charge of First Aid. So I asked Teng Chuan that day what to bring and he said that Justin (logistics IC) would have stuff prepared. Fortunately, he did have the First Aid kits. I was actually asking because Sufyan brought something to record the casualties during the Sec 1 camp down and I had nothing.

Well the First Aid kit seemed useful at first. Looked better than the NCO camp's this year. I had a pretty big wound and they gave me butterfly bandages (picture)...

So after getting to school, we all started talking rubbish. I, Justin and Kenneth (sorry about the bad grammar. I just so had to make it say IJK. It looks so cool) started talking about Red Alert 3 (I was the only one with an authentic version...). Afterward, in the room we were hiding in, they started playing C&C: Red Alert 3 and dai di or however you spell it. Well I was apparently the only guy who knew what to do. Yu Jun spammed sputniks because he thought they were offensive (they are not).

OK so afterwards, in the very first part of the camp when I wanted to slack and all, the casualties started pouring in. The first casualty was Javier I believe. He had gastric pain. Danish (pronounced Dah-nish) and Idris also came in. Danish had leg cramps and Idris had a cramp from the day before the camp started up to that point in time. So I went to buy Javier some food (hot dog [bun]). Oh and I just realised, the guys from the camp owe me 60 cents. OK unfortunately, I did not have anything for muscle cramps in the First Aid kit (Ironic. Now they were all mostly for bleeding). So Javier got better and went back with the rest and later came back again with the same problem.

A guy named Samuel also came in in the middle of all that. He fell down on a straight arm (in case you do not know, THAT HURTS). Mrs David later took him to the clinic and then realised that Samuel's mother worked at a hospital after giving her a call. So they went to his mother's hospital and learned that he had a small fracture(bone-break). My sympathies.

Fortunately, Danish had some burning muscle cramp cream for Idris and himself. Well Idris put a really huge amount on his cramp and it burned for quite a long time. We started talking about things like my OBS experience and our Malaysia Montage experiences. Take note that I told the two about my experience with my classmates putting bathing powder on their "little bros" on the day that we could not bathe on. Afterwards, I went out since I was involved in one of the events (they had to find me for the scavenger hunt).

So they made me escape through the window in the Junior Block once everyone found out they had to find me. OK I am still thinking of whether it was really necessary to do that. (Teng Chuan and Dhivian made me...) So I first hid next to the Staircase next to Staff Room 3. I heard a lot of noise but everyone passed by me. I went up the stairs and saw them all. I went back down the stairs and hid under a table next to the opposite staircase. I saw one of the "enemy"'s sentries in a reflection in the glass door. He never saw me. So after he was gone, I hid near the Lecture Theatres (where they were looking for me when I was at the first staircase). Accordingly after this, they went to look for me at the staircase. Well, they were too late. So I loitered around and I heard Nigel saying, "Wyz is on the first floor! Shhhhh..." Well he was right. However, they did not spot me. So that was around 15 minutes. I hid in between one Lecture theatres' doors (there were two/four doors). I saw that you could actually see me if you just looked at the door because the reflection of light would permit one to see a human sillouhette. So eventually, I was scared that the people in the LT would come out so I went off quickly. I crept around the heritage centre at the atrium. I hid behind a pillar to avoid being spotted by Nigel and some other people I saw looking for me. Unfortunately for me, Duranka saw me moving to adjust my angle. I remember him shouting "Down with Wyz! Wyz must fall!" So yeah he caught me. I then complained to them about how long they took to find me (around 20-25 minutes).

When I came back, Danish had allegedly put his burning cream on somewhere REALLY sensitive. So after lunch, both Danish and Idris came back and Javier went back with the rest. A guy named Dehn (D-uhn) came in because his flatfoot caused his shin(bone) to hurt. My brother, Joenz, has the same problem and tells me that it hurts like a pressing feeling at that bone and that it burns. So he asked for ice. I got some from the snack stall (with a warning not to eat the ice because it was pretty dirty). Well it melted a lot and the condensation caused his legs to get pretty wet. The cream would have been of no use to him because it was not a muscle pain he was feeling, but a bone pain.

So we started talking about our experiences and all that and it was already about 3 hours (around 6 for Danish and Idris). They went back home eventually.

After they went back home, I got to slack around and play Red Alert 3. I only lost one match to Yu Jun's engineer rush. And I won Justin and Kenneth in monopoly. In this game, I would have won if anyone had touched my super expensive place with four houses on it. Kenneth quit at the last minute and gave me all of his money and property. Of course, I won. I was playing Monopoly because Justin did not want to let us play with his computer... Ironic eh?

Afterwards, Matthew came in because he was dizzy. Brandon came in because he had gastric pain (he came before to get his antacid as well). OH AND NOW I REALISE HE HAD ANTACID THAT COULD HAVE BEEN USED FOR JAVIER. Oh well. That stuff tastes bad anyway (I know... I've had this problem before...) and Javier did get better. Well Mrs David suggested I give medical oil to Matthew. It turned from dizziness into waves (one side hurts then later the other side does, then the other, et cetera). Ivan came back from hell hour with allergic reactions on his skin. We got calamine lotion for him. They were asking me whether I was bored. Well actually, yes. In the end, Brandon and Matthew went back home.

That's EIGHT casualties in just one day...

Since it was solo night, people were sleeping in random places in the senior block (and the very scary science block). I had to write down where everyone was sleeping. It was dark so it was hard to write. Apparently everyone was scared after Neville Nah told them ghost stories about the place. So when I went back, I had one final duty. Kim Song was feeling sick and had to go home. I had to wait with him. By golly it was already 1 am. Luckily his father still came to pick him up. Well even though most of this took away my opportunities to slack and make the camp a vacation camp, it makes me not feel utterly useless.

When I finally went back in the room (a different one due to a power outage in the previous room earlier), the guys were still playing Red Alert 3. Wow. So instead of sleeping, I decided to watch them play. Shaun was hogging the computer all day and night. While I was watching, it was my 2.00am-3.00am shift for sentry duty. I wrote the list so I was able to understand it and rely on some of my memory to remember where everyone was. We only were delayed because Sean did not want to get out of bed/poncho.

So after discussing some stuff with Shaun, I finally went to sleep (was around 3.15 or so already). I woke up at 8.15 am. I should have woken up at 5.30 but at least I got some sleep.

I ate a piece of bread in two bites and went off with Sufyan to the RJC/RI next year track. Xin Cheng vomited water because he drank too much. Azhar told me he had rashes. I did not know what to do. I was feeling really guilty playing Red Alert 3 when I should have brought him to the sick bay. I was also thinking that since he was not with me, I could not just take him away and ruin his fun. Eventually, since I already sms'd Mrs David about it, she told me to get some calamine, but I got Azhar to me instead and then Mrs David came and we went to get some calamine lotion. He said the itches started getting crazy after that.

WHY DOES MEDICINE ALWAYS SEEM TO MAKE THINGS WORSE?!?!

OK so Mrs David gave me some biscuits after hearing about my 1 piece of bread breakfast. I shared a wafer with Teng Chuan and no one wanted to eat the other biscuits. Later, I put the biscuits down and they seemed to be cleared away later. After all that, it was an uneventful day for me (besides Javier coming in again because he had drunk too much water and felt nauseous) and I mostly was just playing Red Alert. However, I was feeling guilty and went outside, asking Chen Wei whether there were any casualties I did not know of. He told me to check on Wee Kiang who was feeling nauseous. He told me he was fine. Well they were doing drills (it was supposed to be Hell Hour 2...). I decided to help identify mistakes since Teng Chuan and Dhivian seemed unable to or were not willing to. I should have stayed on and continued. However, I could not resist the temptation to go and play Red Alert 3 and went off. Oh, and Sean and Khairi did not plan anything for the War Games (there was nothing on the proposal either). So Teng Chuan and Dhivian improvised. I have no idea what happened after I left.

There was nothing for the obstacle course so we improvised and did the "put a shirt on as a blindfold and follow orders from the people mindlessly" thing. Well I was one of the guys commanding a group (the leader could not turn and face parallel to the right angles on the floor's edges at all). Well at one part, I put my arm in front of a guy and told him to duck. Clarence found out my ruse and I did not bother with it any more. I made them climb on a bench and get off (a guy from RJC took a picture telling them "you guys are very photogenic!"). When one person lost his grip of another guy's ankle, I put my foot there and he ended up holding Clarence's right foot and my right foot. After that, I was moving my legs so much and he ended up asking "Clarence, how come your legs so big, ah? Separate so far. Oh I think I'm holding the wrong leg." Heheh. Well then I just went with the flow and later they were given orders to slap another "caterpillar"'s butts/donkeys. So after that, utter chaos ensued. Well yeah it ended up with them being surrounded and trapped. I told them to crawl out but the others were still moving. One of the guys in that moving caterpillar stopped and was all confused. In one part, people were stepping on other people. Ouch. I did not intend that to happen. Well yeah so it was pretty fun for us people ordering them around. Heheheh.

The picture shows my group trying to crawl out of a flank.

So I just played Red Alert 3 to my heart's content (and won Kenneth and Justin in another game of Monopoly which I would have lost if Kenneth had not given me all of his money and property at the right time), gave people their medication back (only one person's because all the other people who gave me their medication already went home) and went off back home.

Final Count: That's ELEVEN CASUALTIES IN A TWO DAY CAMP AND SIX SENT HOME. The first count was 29 people and after that it went down to 27 people at the end of the camp. So you may ask me, wait so 29-6=27? Yoo Ma-t-matik phaylz raik mine schpeeling. Actually, a lot of people forgot about the camp and only came after calls from the teachers. This means that four people came late.

Analysis: One suggested reason which I quite strongly believe in for the number of casualties is the timing of the camp. It was in the middle of the holidays and therefore, a lot of people were playing soccer and things like that before the camp therefore making them weaker, prone to illness or already sick before the camp.

The MRT headed for home was really crowded. It was around 7 or 8 already (I ate dinner at Junction 8). A thread sticking out of my pants got stuck in the MRT door for a long time until the doors opened. When I re-entered, my sleeve got stuck in the door (picture). After taking two pictures, I got out with an elastic jerk.

The next day, I went for the spiritual meeting at church. It actually started on Thursday but I was at camp on Thursday and Friday. I wanted to go early and reach church at 8.20 am but I was too tired and overslept. I reached church at 11am instead. I do not know whether I was supposed to eat the food since my name was not on the list. WHATEVER.

So Joseph Chong was pretty boring and I did not get the relevance of his financial crisis sermons... To me it seemed better to have a lesson on finance or to just read the newspapers ourselves though what he said about just not buying too many unnecessary things to help ward off the crisis could work. However, most people DON'T buy unnecessary things at all. However, sometimes they have children and this really exacerbates the problem.

Simon Chin's final sermon about other churches was good and I think it should really be repeated or something for the evangelical service. Too bad the themes are already set.

The Spiritual Meeting was themed "The Crisis of the End Times". Stuff about Moral Depravity today and the Financial Crises. I missed the other parts.

OK the Theological Seminar is going to start tomorrow. I will be away from the 2nd (tomorrow) till the 24th of December (My birthday!!).

Well a lot of people asked me "Why didn't you sign up for the OIP?", "It was d*** fun!" and stuff like that. I have not heard any negative comments about it. Well I thought the OIP was a camp for leaders only and so I did not sign up. I also had a reputation of being the guy who gets bullied a lot so I did not want to go in case I ended up with gangsters and whatever. Anyway, Theolo will have its fair share of overseas guys (from Australia and South Africa mostly).

OK right. Word count is at least 2,000 now. Perhaps I should end my post here. Well alright then. Farewell creatures of the world!
